Anon has asked: When I was pregnant my blood tests showed that I had low immunity to rubella and needed to get a shot after the birth. The drs/midwives and I all forgot to do this before I left the hospital. I went to get the vaccine when our baby got her 2 month vaccinations, but found out that the rubella vaccine is a live vaccine. We didnt want to overload our babys immune system (was already unsure about getting her vaccinated at all, but this isnt about that and dont want this to turn into a vaccination argument.) Anyway, now that I know its a live vaccine Im unsure about getting it at all while Im still breastfeeding her (which Im doing exclusively still) because it could pass to her through the milk. But I plan on breastfeeding her for as long as possible, hopefully until Im pregnant with the next baby. So I guess Im wondering when should I get the rubella vaccine? Is it a legitimate fear to not want to get it while breastfeeding? Thanks!
