Another Chris Rea tour and yet again more debates about the set-list. Having attended every CR tour except one since the early 80s I fully understand peoples complaints and concerns etc especially those coming from afar to see the great man perform. Being such a devote fan I feel as though I have a right to an opinion as we all do and I thought it would be nice to see something positive said instead of all the negative. Dont get me wrong, I....like many of you......would love to hear some different classic songs from way back when but I look at the situation differently it would seem from many others. Ever since seeing CR in concert for the first time I have always looked forward to seeing him again....and again.....and again. Back in those days he had a new album to plug and played a different set-list on every tour. Of course the old favourites would be there but it would be based around the new album of the time. Since his serious illness things seemed to have changed when it comes to a new tour regarding the songs his decides to play. Gone are the days of plugging a new album. Chris is now in a position of doing and playing exactly what he wants to and isnt restricted by a new album etc. I know this isnt what us fans want but I dont think CR has ever really cared too much about what his fans want. We all know Chris is not a people-person and never does anything regarding meet and greets etc. I have also witnessed at first hand of how rude he can actually be towards people that spend their hard earned money on him. This is how he is these days. I have read of some saying we should start to boycott his shows because of the same old set-list. I would suggest Chris wouldnt give a damn if you did such a crazy thing,my guess is is that he doesnt do this for the money anymore. I look at it this way. One day all this will stop and Chris will be touring no more. I for one do not want to look back and wish Id done a little more to see him play more often. I dont want any regrets. I dont go to as many concerts as Id like to these days but I will NEVER miss a Chris Rea tour. I look forward to seeing him play live so much regardless of what song is coming out of the speakers. I know he doesnt love us as much as we love him but that will not stop me from paying my pennies to go and see what I consider to be THE best guitarist of our time. Whether Im watching him play Road To Hell for the millionth time or playing the phone book I just dont care. I am at my happiest when he is on a stage in front of me doing his thing and if I could go to every show on this tour I would......because one-day there will be no tour ever again. And I will miss that terribly. This comment isnt meant to cause unrest with anyone its just one mans opinion. I respect everyone elses opinions, especially those who have to travel such extreme distances and fully understand their disappointment and decision to miss another same old tour regarding the same old Chris Rea set-list. As I see it we are all one big family and every family has a difference of opinions at times. Doesnt mean we love one another any less. REAgards to each and every one of you. Steve.
