Another Facebook user said this which I find profound - Its clear to me from his own words that Joseph would have been uncomfortable with all the praise we heap upon him. He said on one occasion I do not want you to think I am very righteous. For I am not very righteous. Joseph didnt like being cast as a beacon of virtue, and his revelations repeatedly pointed out his weaknesses. Personally, I think thats a good reminder, and a good lesson for us to absorb as a church. Its dangerous to set our church leaders up as close-to infallible. If church history has taught us anything, its that trusting in the arm of flesh can lead to very troubling outcomes. And it helps us realize the miracle of the restoration despite Josephs weaknesses, instead of because of his righteousness. An important distinction, in my opinion, as it seems like thats the lesson the Lord is asking us to take away.
