Another Harts Range oddity: distorted growth reverse amethyst - TopicsExpress

Another Harts Range oddity: distorted growth reverse amethyst scepter, 48mm tall collected from the Entia Valley, Harts Range, NT in 2012. The exact cause of the unusual growth is not known but according to Don McColl, it is believed to be the interference of calcite during the formation of the quartz itself. The vughs that host these crystals often have weathered lumps of calcite in them, particularly towards the base of the pockets. Ill add a photo of this one just after it was found in the comments below :-)
