Another Hockey Icon Is Gone. November 23rd we lost PAT QUINN and now Im sad to report that legendary Montreal Canadien and former captain for 10 years JEAN BELIVEAU passed away at the age of 83. He was apart of 5 consecutive Stanley Cups and captured 10 Cups during his playing career with THE HABS. His #4 was retired and The Hall Of Fame waived its usual 3 year waiting period and immediately inducted him in 1972. Béliveau cited his first Stanley Cup in 1956 as one of the greatest moments of his career. That year he also won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHLs leading scorer and the Hart Trophy for being the league MVP. He also cited the night he scored his 500th goal with a hat-trick against the Minnesota North Stars on Feb. 11, 1971 as one of the best nights of his career. He led by example on the ice and off, a mentor to newcomers and valued advisor to veterans. A few words of quiet encouragement lifted players and the team out of slumps. He was one of the most respected men in the hockey world and a great role model. Béliveau devoted his energy towards helping the less fortunate. He made thousands of public appearances to help promote charitable causes and visited countless individuals in need. #JEANBELIVEAU is gone but his contribution on the ice and off will never be forgotten. #RIP #ThankYouJean #Montreal #Canadiens #Habs
