Another MSU Student gets published On the first of August 2013, American publishers, TL Publishing, released their first poetry anthology titled: ENTER THE GATEWAY: A POETRY ANTHOLOGY. This book features Christian poetry written by many authors from America and only one author from Africa. This author is none other than the founding president of the Midlands State University Writers Club, aka Writers of Recent Day (WORD), a student of Politics and Public Management, Lisbon Tawanda Chigwenjere. The book is edited by Alice Saunders. Its contributors are: Jane Blanchard, Audrey Williams, Lisbon Tawanda Chigwenjere, Thomas Koron, Erren Geraud Kelly, Oneal Walters, Makeba Jackson, Richard Hartwell, David Schildroth, Cathy Baker, Carol Meeks, Nels Hanson, Marchell Dyon Jefferson, Michael Miller, Mark Nenadov, and Jesse Chandler. As brought forward by the synopsis of the book, “readers will discover they are not alone in their day-to-day struggles. These authors have struggles, too, but after the test comes the testimony, which is the message conveyed herein. “These authors had a revelation concerning hope. They realised what would happen if they grabbed a hold of that Hope (Jesus) and never let go. They knew the access it would provide because they went through the experience of constantly pressing forward with reliance on the Word of God despite the appearance of the situation they were facing . . .” Lisbon has won many writing competitions in the country and his poetry has appeared in the Sunday Mail Bridge column many times. Believe it or not, the young man started writing when he was only 10 years of age. The inspiration came from many angles, firstly from inside his family, and going out. While he was doing his Grade 7 at Kuwadzana 8 Primary School he read Vitalis Nyawaranda’s “Mutunhu Une Mago” from cover to cover and soon he was to receive the assessment of his first novel manuscript from the same author two years later. In 2008 he won twice in a quarterly short-story writing competition held by the British Council in conjunction with the Budding Writers’ Association of Zimbabwe (BWAZ). He has participated in the House of Hunger Poetry Slam held at the Book Cafe and he has also won KWAYEDZA poetry competitions held for students. He was also offered the opportunity to recite his short stories on Spot FM in a programme called STORY TIME which was hosted by Isaac Nyathi. Lisbon believes he is the writer Zimbabwe has been waiting for. Together with members of the MSU Writers’ Club, they are working on their own poetry anthology which they believe will be published soon. ENTER THE GATEWAY: A POETRY ANTHOLOGY is currently under the review of Beaven Tapureta, director of the Writers’ International Network. The MSU Writers’ Club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Lisbon on this great achievement. The writer, Liberty Tatenda Chigwenjere, is Lisbon’s twin brother and an English and Communication student at Midlands State University. Story courtesy of the Sunday Mail.
