Another Next-Level edition of Tri-Cities Sports Scene for you tonight on ESPN Tri-Cities [94.3 FM/1400 AM in Kingsport, 97.7 FM/1590 AM in Johnson City and 97.9 FM/1490 AM in Bristol, on ESPNTriCities and the Mobile Phone Ap ‘Tune-In Radio’ with keyword search ‘WKPT’] including a recap of the Region 1 Cross Country Championships and this Saturday’s State Championship, a recap of the Region 1-AAA and Class AAA Sectional soccer rounds and up to the minute reports of the Dobyns-Bennett Lady Indians’ first-round state tournament fixture against Franklin. Also on tap, we have some news about the upcoming prep winter sports season – basketball jamborees and high school holiday tournaments, some swimming results and next week’s schedule. Also, we’ll look at last night’s ETSU basketball exhibition contest against Milligan as well as a history-making night at Brooks Gym with the Lady Buc volleyball team. Of course, the biggest subject of the night is high school football where the last week of the regular season will determine many conference championships and state playoff berths and/or position and w’ll preview many of Fridays match-ups and hear from South coach Sam Haynie, Elizabethton coach Shawn Witten and Daniel Boone coach Jeremy Jenkins about the games as well. Also on the big show will be an in-depth analysis of the latest TSSAA Football Playoff Standings and our predictions on how Quadrant 1 might look come Saturday morning when the final bracketing is announced. We’ll also discuss the new ‘Sullivan South’ rule when it comes to the announcement and appeals process for the final pairings. I also want to give you some thoughts about last week’s state volleyball tournament and whether or not the tournament set-up facilitates as much neutrality as it should for the home-site schools. I’ve had some interesting conversation with folks across the state this week that I think you will find interesting. I’ve also been forwarded a question about high school football statistics and reporting, specifically regarding the notation of ‘official first downs’. Interesting how that official stat differs at all levels of football. Additionally, if you have questions or comments during the course of the show, I encourage you to go to the ESPN Tri-Cities Facebook page and leave them there. I will monitor that page if you have specific questions you’d like me to address either tonight or on a future show, that’s the place to do that. You may have a question about a specific high school football team regarding their playoff outlook, go to the ESPN Tri-Cities Facebook page and leave the message and I’ll address your comment/question on the show. So tune in to the Tri-Cities Sports Scene ESPN Tri-Cities in Kingsport [94.3 FM, 1400 AM], Johnson City [97.7 FM, 1590 AM] and Bristol [97.9 FM, 1490 AM] or ESPNTriCities and the Tune-In Radio smart phone app with keyword search WKPT.
