Another One Bites The Dust! This morning I received a call from my friend Roz Keep who had just discovered a juvenile Chinese White Dolphin aka Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis)... or simply known locally as Pink Dolphins due to the bubblegum pink colour they turn as they mature. These dolphins are serious threatened as their habitat becomes more and more hectic. A new bridge from Macau to Hong Kong across the Pearl River Delta is causing and environmental disaster for the dolphins, with increased noise, boat traffic and reclaimed islands. The high speed ferry traffic to Macau has also increased as well as shipping into Shenzhen through the now narrower channel due to the HK International Airport which is all built on reclaimed land from the dolphins territory. The future looks even more grim as plans for a third runway are moving ahead, even with poor EIAs that have gaping holes.
