Another amazing Sunday morning at Dan River Church. It just gets better and better. First, Scott Bullman and one of the choirs from Thomas Road Church led the music worship and it was beautiful and inspiring. Scott Randlett as usual delivered a powerful message, interspersed with humor. (He could be a stand up comedian.) He takes a scripture weve heard over and over and gives it a new meaning. Today it was the story of the good Samaritan. The topic was Not your normal neighbor.. He said if you dont know where hurting people are, youre on the wrong road. As Christians we need to look beyond what normal people see when they see people. There are three ways to see people: someone to exploit, someone to avoid, or someone to be loved. As Christians we should respond with a love that normal people do not give. When the man was attacked by robbers on the road to Jericho, robbers exploited him by attacking him and robbing him and leaving him to die by the side of the road. A priest and a Levite saw him but avoided him by passing to the other side. Then a despised Samaritan man came by and saw him and he bent down, picked him up, cared for him, showed compassion, got his hands dirty, went out of his way, paid his expenses, and came back to check on him. Thats going the extra mile. And he said that was what Jesus did for each of us. Because the Samaritan was a good neighbor, one mans life was changed forever. If everyone had decided to be a good neighbor, the entire road could have been changed. As you grow and mature as a Christian, you begin to see people differently. We need to get out of our comfort zone and go where normal people are afraid to go.
