Another amazing birth story despite needing a little help starting. Well done Sam and Matt and welcome to Robyn! Hi Tracey, As promised here’s my birth story… On the 30th December I was induced (only 4 days before my EDD) due to concerns that my baby was on the small side. This was despite investigations (scans and daily monitoring), which were all normal. We tried to question the consultant’s recommendations, based on facts but they didn’t like this and told us if we didn’t have her ASAP she could die. When put like that you’d do anything wouldn’t you!!? The induction took place at 7pm on the 30th December, we were told it could take 2-3 days, I was kept in and Matt was sent home. By 10 pm some cramping stated, I breathed through it and used the birthing ball and Wise Hippo MP3’s to help ease the discomfort. It really wasn’t that bad. I got a couple of hours sleep, but woke around 2am unable to sleep anymore, but persevered with all the techniques and remained mobile on the ward. I ask the midwives to examine me at 4am, which they reluctantly agreed too (they assured me I couldn’t possibly be in established labor as I wasn’t in enough pain and was refusing pain relief!). Minutes later I was told I was 9cm and needed to go to delivery NOW! I called Matt who rushed in and made it with about 30 minutes to spare and helped with the final stages. She eventually flew out with 4 ‘birthing breaths’ (and a little pushing as the consultant threatened to intervene if I didn’t push) at 5:08 on the 31st December 2014, a perfect 6lbs little girl, alert and wide eyed. Thanks Tracey for teaching us what you did. Even though we couldn’t follow our birth preferences exactly, the breathing techniques were invaluable, especially when Matt was absent. I was told that next time (providing I’m not induced), I’d be a prime candidate for a home birth ☺ Sam, Matt and Robyn Juno Jones
