Another article while people are going to the polls. Very strange. I have never seen Heath react with anger towards me (for what that is worth). I have never witnessed him treating others with disrespect either. I am very curious whether the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board was having issues with the Sup or whether the Sup was having issues with them. Since Sups are public officials (appointed not elected) information in his file (or summaries of closed session discussions about him) should be public in some fashion or the other so taxpayers can assess the veracity of the stories coming out of CMS. There are a number of questions to be raised. How long has the School Board been meeting about this? If they were aware of discussions prior to Monday, what meetings have they had about this matter and what were the issues involved. The best way to quell public discontent (concern over whether the truth has come out) is to fully disclose the matter. The statement by Mary McCray (chair of CMS) says: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education will call a special meeting on Thursday at noon to take action on a separation agreement. There are a variety of ways an individual in a high profile position can leave. WITH CAUSE: They can be asked to resign with cause (meaning there is some reason for the resignation). WITHOUT CAUSE: They can be asked to resign without cause - just because the board wants to take a different direction. RESIGN FOR PERSONAL REASONS: The public official (Sup) could resign for personal reasons (no severance or agreement). Since the Statement from CMS says that Morrison is resigning to spend time with this family this would indicate that leaving was HIS idea. When someone leaves on their own there is usually NO SEVERENCE paid. If you quit your job would you get money? No way. So, since the School board said yesterday that they were going to come back and discuss his package some people are taking that to mean that the school board plans on paying him severance and that would seem to be at odds with statements that he was leaving on his own.
