Another award-winning photobook just arrived at the ZOEM office: Carlos Spottornos The Pigs, and is a perfect example of how intelligence makes great photographers even greater. In a format that mirrors The Economist, Spottorno —a Spaniard himself— traveled through Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain (referred to by economists as the Pigs countries) for his book. The result is a collection of clichés, both true and incomplete Spottorno says in his preface. The same way a travel guide carefully avoids anything seemingly unattractive, this book shows much of what we find embarrassing, oftentimes rightly, and at times unfairly. While shortlisted in the Aperture Paris Photo Photobook Award 2013, The Pigs won the Kassel Photobook Award 2013. thepigs.spottorno/
