Another big event in the sky approaches and worth watching! The full moon of August 10 will be a Super Moon The event happens when the satellite is closest to Earth in its orbit and point appears to be bigger and brighter than other full moons of the year. The scientific term for this phenomenon is lunar perigee. The Moon will be at 363,395.93 km away from our pale blue dot. According to the website of NASA, the American Space Agency, the Moon follows an elliptical path around the Earth. The closest point is called the perigee and is located about 50,000 km closer to our planet than the apogee (farthest point). Therefore, full moons that occur at perigee seem bigger and brighter. The best time to observe and record the phenomenon is when the Moon is near the horizon. In this situation it is possible to compare it with buildings, trees or any other object that serves as a reference.
