Mixing a page–turning account of the Wars of the Roses with a slyly revisionist approach to the legends of the various kings and queens, Joness third book is rip–roaring stuff but never descends into bathos or over–simplification. He depicts a confused world where there were no clear heroes or villains and where success could just as easily be overturned by treachery or cowardice. Deservedly a bestseller in the UK and US it will appeal to Game Of Thrones fans and history buffs alike. I hope you agree.
