Another books of the year selection for The Hollow Crown (aka The Wars of the Roses) - this time from the Daily Express. This is what Alex Larman, the author of a terrific biography of the scandalous Restoration poet and courtier Lord Rochester, had to say: One of the most entertaining popular histories of the year is undoubtedly Dan Joness THE HOLLOW CROWN (Faber, £20). Mixing a page–turning account of the Wars of the Roses with a slyly revisionist approach to the legends of the various kings and queens, Joness third book is rip–roaring stuff but never descends into bathos or over–simplification. He depicts a confused world where there were no clear heroes or villains and where success could just as easily be overturned by treachery or cowardice. Deservedly a bestseller in the UK and US it will appeal to Game Of Thrones fans and history buffs alike. I hope you agree.
