Another church for today - First Methodist Church. It started out on the southwest corner of Seventh and Broadway. The original frame structure was built in 1878. As the congregation grew classrooms were added on to both sides of the sanctuary. In 1908, the ceiling and part of the roof fell in. So the building was torn down and replaced by a substantial brick structure in 1909. By 1960, the church needed to become handicap accessible, needed a new furnace, etc. The congregation found that it would be more feasible for them to raze the brick structure and built a new one. THey purchased land east of the hospital and built their new church there. The land on Broadway was sold to the city for $1 for a new library, which was dedicated in June of 1976.
