Another couple of harvest scenes out of the past, probably late 1920s near Colton, WA. The stands of wheat look so thin in the combine pic that you wonder if it was worth the effort. But in those days the only material input for a crop was the seed. (No commercial fertilizer). Nature provided the water and the land, the farmer provided the labor (including the horses and equipment). Seed was taken out of previous crops. Seemingly self sufficient but the labor element could be grueling and the returns meager. Man and animal often worked side by side.
