Another dangerous implication that this imposition makes is that doctors could not be trusted. Trust, like excellence and honor, are values and virtues that we aspire to. Trust is necessary for any doctor-patient relationship to succeed. Everyday, our patients entrust us with some of the most important moments in their lives, whether it be in the delivery room, the operating table, the clinic, or their death beds. The patient’s trust is sacred to us. The BIR is telling everyone that all doctors cannot be trusted. It is clear that the people in the BIR have no grasp of the intangible complexities in our field. The fact that they imposed this on us without question or dialogue, is a crying shame. This is not the mark of an efficient government. Insensitivity and disrespect is always borne out of ignorance.
