Another day, another broken promise. In 2010, the PC government promised to limit post secondary tuition hikes to match inflation only. But a loophole called the market modifier tool allows institutions to apply to hike fees beyond inflation rates to match comparable schools. Unfortunately, these comparators are often in jurisdictions with no tuition protections, so this workaround keeps our students on the roller-coaster. This is a total failure of our PC government to address the problem of Alberta having the lowest participation in post secondary education in Canada. Our province needs to educate a generation of students who will lead Alberta forward from energy-sector dependence into the future.
