Another draw for Hedges Men Cabramatta Sydney Shield found a way to claim yet another draw in season 2014 when they surrendered a 30-24 lead with 3 minutes remaining to draw 30 all with the high flying Campbelltown Eagles in round 10 of the Sydney Shield competition. The two blues looked set for a well-earned victory after outscoring the Eagles six tries to five, but goal kicking ultimately proved the difference as the Eagles shattered Cabramatta’s dreams late in the match. Coach Jason Hedges was at a loss to describe how his side managed to draw this match, their third draw of the season, saying they cannot win a trick this year. “We have been competitive in every match, dominating for most parts and yet you look at our position on the competition table and it looks like we have struggled. “Our problem is we leak points like a siv at crucial times when we get tired. “There is not a team that I fear, our boys can beat anyone on the day, its time for us to stand up and put teams away rather than leave them hanging on the ropes and allowing them to get out of jail,” added a frustrated Hedges. “Like all teams we have our fair share of injuries and disruption, but we have a great squad with plenty of depth and I know we will be hard to beat when the whips are cracking,” he said. Not wanting to take away from the team performance, Hedges couldn’t go past the performance of makeshift halfback Amanono Tovio when asked who his best players were. He described Tovio’s game as absolutely outstanding, claiming he orchestrated a number of tries and guided the team around the paddock splendidly. Prop Eni Folau was outstanding aswell, as was backrower Tupou Penitani who crossed for a hat trick of tries, and lock Henry Mahe. This week the two Blues take on arch rivals Mounties in a local derby at New Era Stadium from 1.15pm that also doubles as part of the Club’s 95 Year Celebrations. With an Under 17’s game first from 10:30am, Cabramatta also play Mounties in the C Grade from 11:45am so get down to the ground early. Tries – Tupou Penitani (3), Siau Mafi, Luke Lavendar, Filimone Lasalosi. Goals Derek Peachey 3 from 6.
