Another extraordinary week in the IDL this week, 48 matches - TopicsExpress

Another extraordinary week in the IDL this week, 48 matches yielded 30 180s, 20 three figure checkouts, and incredibly, as most of you will know through the social media explosion over the last few days, we witnessed The IDLs first ever nine dart finish this week. The roundup begins with the Challenge Cup, a little disappointing that a lot of these games remain unplayed, please prioritise these fixtures in Cup and Trophy so to not hold up the competitions. In the last remaining Preliminary Round Cup match, Donald Adamson edged out Dan Barnes 5-4 to set up a meeting with Jamie Freeman, despite Dan hitting a 180 and a 102 checkout. In the First Round matches played, Liam Curran spanked Terry Barned 5-0, hitting a 180, and David Cook kept up his excellent form, defeating Blaine Karst 5-2 with both players hitting a 180 in that one. Into the Challenge Trophy Preliminary Round and Steve Holmes conceded his tie with Vikash Hirani, so Vikash is safely through, as are Rob Wardle and Marco Rocha, who were both tested by lower division opposition. Jaymes Sinfield hit a 180 in his revenge defeat of Bob Edmonds, having lost to him in the playoffs last season, and Matthew Kiernan kept up his unbeaten start by beating Dave Buxton. A couple of First Round ties also completed, Matthew Kiernan took out Jaymes Sinfield 4-2, and Dave Evans continued his good start in his first season, adding more woe to Babak Sohzabis season, beating him 4-2. A strange week in the Premier Division, its turning out to be an excellent season with everyone beating everyone, newcomer Shane Edwards is the only player left undefeated and hes only played one game, of course Jamie Freeman is as well but he hasnt played any. This week, defending Grand Champion Ian Whitmore came from behind to beat John Power 8-5, John hitting a 180 and Ian hitting a 116 checkout. On Wednesday night, something very special happened. At 4-1 up in his match with Matt Wilson, Jamie Loader produced two 180s followed by a 141 checkout, the perfect leg, the first ever 9 darter in a London singles league, and went on to win the game 8-4 after a slight wobble. Jamie also beat Liam Curran 8-6, but this was only after Liam started his campaign in real style, hitting a 180 in each of his two victories, 8-5 over Matt, and remarkably, 8-0 over defending Grand Champion Ian. John Power beat Jamie Loader 8-3 to keep himself in the mix, hitting a 154 checkout in that match, and Jamie hit a 180. A good week for Chris Hogg in One A, he hit a 180 in both his wins, 8-3 over Craig Kingstree and 8-4 against Dan Barnes, Dan also hitting a 180. Also picking up two wins was Kevin Broderick, two 8-4s over Rob Edwards and Terry Barned included a 180 for Kevin and a 117 checkout, while both Terry and Rob also hit three figure finishes. Rob beat Terry 8-4 despite Terrys 180, the division is shaping up nicely with Jason Hogg yet to enter the fray. A couple of games in One B this week and a couple of defeats for Jack Malins, dropping him to the bottom of the table. Lee Evans took an 8-4 victory, hitting two 180s and a 111 finish, while Jack hit a 180 and 110 finish of his own but just fell short, and he fell short again, losing 8-5 to Blaine Karst. Still a long way to go in this one, with Richard Gumble, Darryl Thomas, and Connor Scutt all yet to play a game. David Cook strengthened his vicelike grip on Division One C with yet more wins, he hit checkouts of 130 and 121 in an 8-2 success over John Mortimer, and scored yet another bonus point, hitting a 180 and a 128 checkout in a whitewash of poor Tim Dyson, who sits alongside Billy Maddison on -2 points at the foot of the table. Into Two A and leader Guy de Maudave was comfortably beaten 8-3 by Nic Gould, Nic hitting two 180s and Guy checking out 120, and all 14 legs went with throw in an incredible 7-7 draw between Nic and his Parliament team captain Rob Wardle. Nic hit another two 180s to Robs one, and both hit a ton plus checkout as well. Rob did get a victory, beating Vikash Hirani 8-5, and Marco Rocha picked up two draws, against Vikash and against Will Driscoll, Will checking out 115. A correction from last week, it was reported that Will had beaten Babak Sohzabi 8-5, it was in fact 8-4. Two B is very nicely poised, with Stewart McIlvenna extending his lead at the top with an 8-2 win over Ash Rees, but two players in the chasing pack are now two wins from two games. Gary Cowlam continued his bid to return to Division One at the first time of asking, he hit checkouts of 106 and 102 in an 8-1 demolition of Kenny Guffie. Joining him on two from two is Adam Doyle, who hit a 180 in beating Ash 8-6, Ash hitting a 120 checkout, and beat Patrick McCoy 8-3. Ash did get a point on the board this week, drawing 7-7 with Patrick, Patrick hitting his first IDL 180. Three A is also poised very nicely, with three players holding 100% records chasing leader Steve Nichols who has already played six games, most of which came in one incredible night as detailed in last weeks update. This week, Steve Stutley beat Miz Rashid 8-2, just missing a 170 checkout, Frank Daly hit a 180 in an 8-3 win over Gary Dale, and Gary claimed his first win of the season, beating Sarah Stutley 8-2. Three games also in Three B this week, leader Harry Walsh was brought down a peg or two by an 8-2 beating from Dave Evans, Simon Yewer continued his promotion push with an 8-4 win over Keri Ryan, and Nitin Patel announced his arrival with an 8-4 win over Wayne Hitchings. Three games in Four A, and Steve Holmes won the battle of the CoLDA directors, beating Paul Brown 8-3, Jaymes Sinfield beat Dave Buxton 8-4, and Dave beat Joe Foster by the same scoreline, Joe hitting a strange 96 finish (D5, Bull, D18) Scott Searle again showed why hes favourite to win Four B, hitting a 180 in an 8-3 success over Adam Ivemey, while John Wilson retained top spot, drawing with Adam and beating Nicky Joseph 8-3. Players who do not pay by this date will be fined £5. Continual non payment will result in exclusion from the IDL and any events I run, the money is needed for the trophy budget, we are also looking into having our own stage setup built, to avoid the cost of hiring one four times a year. Fees should be paid to any staff member at the bar, no need to go downstairs to pay, and you should get your name ticked off of the list. Players who have not yet played a game will now be contacted by me. If they fail to respond and explain why they have not played in three weeks, and dont start their matches this week, they will be removed from The IDL next week, so watch this space. We are still trying to get the website sorted out, so please bear with us. Membership cards should now be available at the DOWNSTAIRS bar, please see Julie or Amanda - I will be sending the updated players list through this afternoon. Congratulations to our crazy friends Nicky Joseph, David Cook, Jules Lister, and Juless colleague Nigel Venables, who completed their walk in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care this weekend. They walked 30odd miles, crossing the river 30odd times, all the way from Richmond to Greenwich, all in fancy dress, and they truly deserve your sponsorship. Text COTT50 and your amount in pounds to 70070, every pound helps, so please give generously. MacMillan Cancer Care is our chosen charity for the IDL charity night, which will be scheduled as soon as I can find a suitable date. Registration for the UK Open qualifier on Friday 7th February is now closed, however the second qualifier on Sunday 16th remains open. Register online or in club. The winner and runner up will qualify for our Victoria Cup Finals in December. I think thats your lot folks.
