Another great article from birdchannel about understanding a parrots bite. Parronts can often misread a parrots body language which can result in a bite and its hard not to take it personally sometimes. When I worked at the Lorikeet Landing exhibit at what used to be called the Wild Animal Park in San Diego, CA, I would try to help kids get a Lorikeet to step up onto their arm. The Lorikeets were keen to small children and their unstable arms and would proceed with their beak first which would usually scare the kids. I would explain that birds dont have hands so they have to use their beak like a hand. The kids eyes would get big, the light bulb would turn on and they would usually allow the Lorikeet to place their beak on their arm to step up:) ~Lindsay birdchannel/biting-parrots.aspx
