Another great exhibition currently on display in Paris is at the Conciergerie (on the Ile de la Cité) and focuses on King Louis IX (i.e., Saint Louis) who lived from 1214 until 1270, who ruled from 1226 until 1270, and who built the Sainte-Chapelle de Paris (among many other accomplishments). Of course, the exhibition commemorates the 800th anniversary of his birth. The exhibition opened on 8 October 2014 and will close on 11 January 2015; its displayed in the Great Hall of the Conciergerie. Not many images available here, but the exhibition is well worth a visit if youre in Paris or nearby. It includes many media, from sculpture and metalwork (reliquaries, etc.) to illuminated manuscripts and many others, including the original charter establishing the Sainte-Chapelle and authorizing its construction. The exhibition features one of the largest and most beautiful gilt silver reliquaries I have ever seen--it must measure something in the neighborhood of three feet in height, four feet in length, and three feet in width. There are also diagrams, videos, and lots of didactic panels (in both French and English). I hadnt seen any advertisements for the show; rather, I just happened upon it. But what a find! My great good fortune!
