Another hearing, another bill. RIPAC learned yesterday that there will be a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee this Tuesday June 3 at 4:30pm. Testimony on the Attorney Generals bill, S. 2566 (identical bill that was the subject of the House hearing last month) will be heard. This is the bill that would, among other things, reduce the number of allowable plants by 75%, count the weight of mmj while it is still wet, require inspections by local zoning officials and more. This bill limit the plant count to 3 mature plants and 3 seedlings per residential dwelling. Caregivers who grow in a nonresidential zone, more than 1000 feet from school or daycare center could possess a maximum of 12 mature and 12 seedling plants as well as 2.5 ounces per patient IF they have a cultivation certificate from the Health Dept. Certificates would cost 200 dollars a year. Caregivers would have to pass national background checks. Limit on the number of plants allowed a compassion center would increase from 150 (maximum of 99 mature) to 400 (maximum of 200 mature). Notice of the hearing was just posted yesterday and RIPAC is requesting a postponement. We will also be meeting with key legislators. Stay posted for updates.
