Another huge loss today. Lauren Bacall was in a class of her own even in the classiest golden age of Hollywood. Over the years, I tried many times -- unsuccessfully -- to book Ms. Bacall on my shows. But unlike the vast majority of guests I pursued, she responded politely once with a hand written note, thanking me for the invitation and politely declining the invite, citing that she simply had nothing to promote at the time and that perhaps we could chat in the future. Unfortunately, it never happened. But I was always grateful for the class and gratitude she expressed without the need to do so. She didnt raise the bar in Hollywood. She was the bar.
