Another incredible tribute to honor our military! by The Freedom Rock The Freedom Rock 2014 is complete! I switched paint types this year and hope you all like the new look. Ive already explained the front side as: Old Glory over the top of the rock. Below the flag is an injured soldier (representing those physically injured and emotional wounded) who has come home and is taking in a memorial (holding his little girl) and the memorial features a minuteman and current soldier and in the middle of the memorial are words our Veterans may be thinking about not only while serving but when they return home. Im sure each person who has served deals with their experiences differently but this is my attempt to capture the range of overwhelming emotion a military person may be feeling upon returning from combat. On the south side I wanted to honor SSG Robert J Miller for his actions in Afghanistan that earned him the Medal of Honor. (Please search and read his story online). On the east side, continuing with the Medal of Honor, Ive illustrated Capt. Rocky Versace and his time as a prisoner of the North Vietnamese. (Please search and read his story online). On the lower north side, again continuing with the Medal of Honor, I painted MSgt. Roy Benavidez. I cant even begin to explain how incredible his story is. Please watch his story here: youtube/watch?v=_oUtJxE4sjs On the upper north side I wanted to honor my Great-Uncle Kelly Marckmann and his service as a navigator in a B-24 during WWII. Thank you for all the support and encouraging comments...they mean a lot. Also, our 2015 calendar is now available for $15 to support The Freedom Rock project. Ill be at The Freedom Rock all weekend signing them. They are also available at the Caseys Store in Greenfield, Iowa or online at: thefreedomrock/store/ Thanks again....and Thank you Veterans for our freedom.
