Another informatics-step closer to solutions-oriented action... however, I believe that priorities must now be focused NOT on more scientific research... theres already been millions spent on that already... so much so that the lionfish study field has become an industry in itself... yet the lionfish invasion and its catastrophic effects remains and worsens in most affected areas! INSTEAD OF, or at least ON-BALANCE WITH, more research, I believe that focus should be shifting NOW to establishing joint industry-government subsidized fisheries, including trap development financing, at least temporarily, until lionfish-to-food-markets in each affected coastal jurisdiction are firmly entrenched. Once that is in place, we should collectively be in a position to let market forces (supply and demand) take over, with other potential ancillary markets for lionfish products-services such as pharmacology, eco-tourism, lionfish jewellry, etc. investigated for their additional economic potentials.
