Another item brought up at the All Candidates Meeting by Bob Hackett - not once, but twice - was LED lights replacing the current lighting in the downtown core. If the cost study he referred to is accurate and the savings will pay for them in 4-5 years - then perhaps Pembroke should look into replacing some street lighting - but as I drove back from Dans graduation in Orillia today, I thought to myself - why the down town core - they should be installed in high traffic areas where stores are open in the evening, or even near the hospital that is open 24/7. Why the down town - there are no cars down there after dark unless they are picking up take away food, using an ATM or having a sit down meal in a restaurant. Would it not be prudent to have the CEO and Works Department Head (now that they have completed their study on the roof top flag) conduct a study and locate the heaviest traffic area when street lights come on - then that would be the logical place to start using LED lights. Pembroke is more than the area of Pembroke street that runs from Mackay Street to Chistie.
