Another lesson in the corporate pilfering of an unsuspecting - TopicsExpress

Another lesson in the corporate pilfering of an unsuspecting public. From time to time I do a check on the after market services provided by corporate giants. I have an Artisan 835 printer by Epson that started to malfunction. Recently I started to get an error message that the printer pads were at the end of their life, contact Epson for support or take the unit to an authorized dealer for a professional determination. Here is what I found: The authorized Epson repair shops averaged $50 to $80 up front fees to either reset or replace some parts (extra) if they were indeed worn out. The $50. range included a preliminary reset fee. The process would inform the technician of actual percentage of degeneration of the ink pads. I could have easily been lazy & handed this over to those who know & paid out close to $120 in repair cost. I downloaded a reset utility program that actually gave me a 22% waste of the ink pads life, meaning the pads had more than 88% more wear. For less than $10 I was able to reset an intentionally misleading error message on my printer many folks fall for.
