Another life tragically lost on our roads last night. A motorcyclist appears to have crossed the centre line and collided with a car on SH2, Awakeri, near Whakatane around 6.10pm. The 58-year-old rider, who is formally from the area but was living in Australia, died in hospital from his injuries. A 6-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car is in a stable condition in hospital. This is the fourth death on Bay of Plenty roads within a week. Its too early for us to comment conclusively on the causes of these crashes as they are still under investigation, but regardless of the outcome of those investigations, please do everything you can to keep yourself and those you love safe when travelling. Our sincere condolences to all of those who have been touched by these tragedies.
