Another locally-famous dining institution is gone. Cozy Restaurant - TopicsExpress

Another locally-famous dining institution is gone. Cozy Restaurant had been in operation in Thurmont MD since 1929 and was one of our familys favourite Sunday ride in the country destinations during the 1960s and 70s. They were pioneers in the Smorgasbord format back then and I recall marvelling as a lad at the huge cold salmon fish they always had laid out on the banquet table - bloody good stuff, that. The Cozy joins the ranks of other departed favourite Sunday ride eateries such as the Peter Pan Inn (Urbana MD), The Washingtonian (Shady Grove), Hilltop House (Harpers Ferry WV), Buschs Chesapeake Inn (Cape St. Claire MD) along with more nearby spots such as Fireside Inn (Berwyn Heights MD), Henkels (Annapolis Junction MD), Dezis Italian Restaurant (Waterloo MD), and Laurels late, lamented Bay n Surf. A handful of others remain in business, but under different management and format, such as Mealys Restaurant (New Market MD) and Battletown Inn (Berryville VA). Only the Comus Inn, hard by Sugarloaf Mountain near Dickerson MD with fine dining in a glorious rural setting, and Masons Barn (just east of Cumberland MD) are still the same as ever. Gorblimey, I hate change . . . heavy sigh!
