Another long and wonderfully exhausting convention stands behind - TopicsExpress

Another long and wonderfully exhausting convention stands behind me. Not every battle was won, but this past weekend at the North Dakota Republican state convention was an important one and an overall satisfying experience. As Chairman of Liberty ND PAC, I was incredibly pleased to see such a strong presence by our organization. We distributed thousands of fliers, ran a popular booth, raised some cash and expanded our network of support. Id like to thank all of our volunteers, particularly Matthew Jung, Terrill Epps, Betty Meuchel, Sam Earnest, Del Ruff and especially our Executive Director, Andrea Toman. I was proud to fight, alongside some remarkable advocates, on the Party Resolutions Committee. We were able to successfully craft a solid Republican Party platform that reflects a greater respect for commonsense, limited government, our founding principles, educational choice, transparency, respect for property rights, second amendment rights, the right to life, state and national sovereignty and, overall, less government intrusion and violation of privacy. Amazingly, we were even successful in passing a resolution that calls upon the Republican Party, in an official capacity, to actively draft legislation, identity Republican sponsors and implement the Party platform into law! Philosophically, the 2014 Republican state convention was a conquest for liberty. We gathered data on attendees and, albeit unscientific, the delegation was clearly aligned with libertarian ideals. Im also proud to say that I supported Judy Estensons spirited race for Agriculture Commissioner. Shes the kind of person we need as a public servant and she brought forth a no holds-barred message of greater liberty to the convention. While she ultimately did not secure the endorsement, she ran a strong grassroots campaign with integrity and a solid ethos. I commend her daughter, Meghan Estenson and the rest of her campaign for their hard work. I hope they all take a well-deserved rest and, afterward, remain involved. Again, Id like to truly thank Judy for running and bringing her voice to this race! I saw many friends and acquaintances for the first time since the 2012 State Convention. It was tremendously joyful to see so many of these good people still engaged in the political process and making their voices heard. With so many people of passion, character, ideas and principles, I think the future looks just a little bit brighter.
