Another new Guild Member is Chris Tipple. His background is as an architect, working in construction. A decision to change direction resulted in Chris completing a City and Guilds course in Furniture Design and Manufacture at Bridgwater College. This allowed him to develop and hone his self-taught carpentry skills, allowing Chris to indulge in his passion for working with wood; from the conception and development of an idea, turning a piece of wood into a beautiful heirloom. His wood is mostly locally sourced green and either used green, air dried or dried in his own kiln. For example, the plant stand shown is made from recovered “Industrial Oak” and “Black or Bog Oak”. The oak was found in a deep excavation, during the construction of Gloucester Quays, and probably dates ~1750. You may see this and more of his work at our Courthouse Gallery Shop from Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm!
