Another one of my favorite masterpieces performed by Pathaney - TopicsExpress

Another one of my favorite masterpieces performed by Pathaney Khan. The story of Sohni-Mahiwal from Punjab.....has given a perfectly abstract moment to a lot of Sufi poets when they write about the imaginary dialogue between Sohni and her Ghara(clay pot for collecting water) just before her end. This rendition is probably the best coming together of that moment in poetry, music, Sufi mysticism, vocals and so much more. Some of the things to look for in this would be: 1. The starting lyrics, where the poet compares the Lovers search for the One with with the pious/religious persons search for the One. 2. Another peculiarity is the significant & almost continuous presence of Sarangi(string instrument sounds somewhat like a cello). Its my favorite musical instrument ever.... and it usually starts a piece and then subsides. But this particular one carries it thru. 3. And ofcourse the reasoning that the Ghara(clay pot) provides at the end and how it only helps Sohni resolve to not turn back knowing fully well what her fate is to be.
