Another quite pleasant morning at the park, high clouds making for a spectacular sunrise and the promise of rain later in the day. A very late woodcock was peenting out on the main prairie, and we saw a couple deer on the south slope of the moraine, another on the south slope of the sculpture garden prairie, and a fourth just feet away on the wildflower path. White-throated sparrows ruled the park; it was interesting to hear the varied pitches and cadences with which each sang its Sweet Canada song. And our first palm warblers, one of our favorite birds, were swarming the trees near the farmhouse.
