Another rant from me Im afraid Vehicles carrying ballot boxes from Caithness to Dingwall were forced to take a 98 mile diversion from Wick to reach Helmsdale. The road had been blocked due to road accident, on one of the most dangerous stretches of the A9 which is one of the most dangerous roads in Scotland. The lorry driver was killed. Countless lorries and their drivers have come to a violent end on this very steep Berriedale Braes section (which could be bypassed) of the A9. Its high time this main artery from Caithness to Perth (220 miles) was made safe. Some sections of the road have been made into Dual Carriageway but much of the road in the North is still just a normal trunk road. People have been crying for years that this road should be dualed. Perhaps, now that there is a new energy in the people, we can make this happen!
