Another reason I strongly support Jack Morris is that I have been terribly concerned about the FASCIST move by Mike Pence to create the Center for Education and Career Innovation (CECI). A lot of people arent familiar with this organization; so, Id like to discuss it briefly. Plain & simple: The formation of the CECI is a complete abuse of power by Mike Pence intended to undermine & trump the Indiana Department of Education. On August 26, 2013, Governor Pence signed an executive order creating the Center for Education & Career Innovation (Didnt even allow his own party to vote on it). Unfortunately, OUR elected Superintendent Ritz learned about the creation of this new agency through news reports, rather than from Gov. Pence. The CECI is jam-packed stuffed with past staffers of Tony Bennetts office (like Molly Chamberlain), the CECIs goal is to work with Pence and the state board of education to strip power and money from Glenda Ritz and her Department of Education. The CECI is loaded with those out to dismantle and privatize Indiana public schools by implementing programs such as the voucher system. Current state budgets give Ritz’s office nearly $8.5 million annually. The bodies consolidated under the newly-minted CECI have a collective annual operating budget of $5.8 million — dollars that used to live under the Department of Education’s state budget line. The CECI also has the power to allocate funds & have, according to my sources, allocated over $11 million to date. Even more disturbing than the re-allocation of funds might be the re-location of numerous boards. 2 examples include the gubernatorially-appointed panel that oversees implementation of education laws the General Assembly passes (used to be under the Department of Education itself) - same goes for the Education Roundtable. So, with the creation of the CECI, these 2 boards now report to the Governor, rather than the Board of Education ...... Wow. Jack Morris is STRONGLY against this sort of power grab at the state level. Liz Brown supports this, folks!!! ...... Unbelievable!! I urge you to PLEASE look into this further ...... & to PLEASE vote for candidates who will support public education and our elected officials like Superintendent Ritz. Please tell your friends to Vote for JACK MORRIS next Tuesday. Yes, its really, really important.
