Another strange day - at the end of a truly horrible week in the world. Is anyone else struck by the brutal irony of the date? Here we are: commemorating the outbreak of WWI - which should have been enough horror for the race to be still too traumatised to try it again - but no, weve done it over, and over, and over - and today we have the spectre of war hovering over Europe yet again, as Russia and the USA stare each other down over a piece of land that can benefit neither of them, rattling their metaphorical sabres and symbolically thumping their chests as they prepare to put the world through yet more misery in the name of whatever it is its in the name of. Meanwhile monsters crucify young men for not doing whatever they think its worth crucifying young men for, behead people for not believing in their particular version of the utterly impossible, and besiege starving children on a mountainside, while still another group of monsters pour rockets and bombs into a heavily populated city, whilst a few of that citys citizens fired shonky rockets back at them - thus ensuring the continuation of the warfare unto the nth generation - and the world looks on and squabbles about which one of the two combatants has more right to murder innocents on the other side. And then theres the rapidly melting methane in the Siberian tundra.... And that minor matter of one of the worlds most terrible and intractable diseases escaping its confines in a country with conditions almost tailor made for the development of a pandemic. I feel like putting my head under the bedclothes and waiting for it to go away.....or just divorcing the human race.
