Another thing I did today: I broke up ice and shoveled snow in - TopicsExpress

Another thing I did today: I broke up ice and shoveled snow in front and back of my building. The sewer at the corner of Evaline and Conant was barely draining so I broke up the ice and dug it out. Water from my entire block immediately began to flow towards Evaline. It seems the leaves were not removed from the street surface in the fall. Under snow and ice there was a thick layer of leaves preventing water from draining into the sewer. Another problem, and everyone should check this out, is leaves piled up inside the sewer itself. I looked down inside and there were mounds of leaves that probably should be power vacced each fall before snow falls. This is a job I actually did while working for the City of River Rouge when I was in college. I wonder if Hamtown ever does this? Im going to write to the EFM and mention it. It might even be a contributing factor to flooding in our basements. Check out your nearest sewer.
