Another tough day in the sun. This time its at Splitlog Farm. Turning over 4 ea 8x50 foot beds and boosting their organic content with several cubic yards of fresh composted black gold, a strong horse manure soup, alfalfa pellets and the sweat of 15 medical students from KU. Its going to be hot, sweaty, dirty and amazingly rewarding for all involved but especially for these beds of clay, rock and nutritionally deprived soil. Todays work will go a long way to increasing the productivity of these beds. Two will get cover crops and a rest till spring.The other two will grow another round of fresh produce to extend the season. This is the second trip to the farm for KU med students this year - they are awesome! We are so thankful!
