Another week comes to a close. Been almost a week since I wrote on here and unfortunately this will probably become the norm from now on. Billy has had another great week and his rehab is now starting to have some real impact. Yesterday he had speech therapy for the first time and he did brilliantly. They are working with him on many issues and they tried him with a spoonful of yoghurt. He didnt let them put it near his mouth but he showed an interest which, at this stage, is great progress. They are telling us that he doesnt allow anyone near his face - we already know this as he pushes us away whenever we try and get close to him. The strength in his arm is awesome and it takes a lot of effort to hold him back. Little sod always was as strong as an ox! The therapists need to work on De-sensitizing his face as they need to be able to touch him. All part of the process and they will get his trust which will allow them to do this. Today he went to the gym and did another 30 minute bike session - Bradley Wiggins eat your heart out!! Then they did another speech therapy session with him. 2 Therapists sat with him in a quiet area and did lots of tests with him. He was sensational today and they were so pleased with his progress. He is, once again, proving how determined and strong he is and if he keeps going at this pace hell be back to his old self in no time. Dont get me wrong, there is still a mountain to climb and all of these are just tiny steps but the smile it puts on our faces and the lump it puts in your throat is indescribable. In comparison with other events its nothing unless youve been there. Not like running a marathon, passing your exams, finishing University, whatever your child has done to make you feel 10 feet tall. But just to have him do a simple little thing like take a tissue and wipe his nose for the first time is breathtaking, awesome, absolutely amazing!!! Our short terms goals are now to get him home in the next few months and to try and get him home for Christmas day. Will be a huge effort and will need a lot of emails, phone calls, etc but the whole family wants him home for even just an hour. Somehow I will make it happen but for now its a long way off. Off to the hospital now to try and install the web cam we got for his room. This will allow the family 24 hour access to him via an APP. Big Brother is watching!!!
