Another wet summer has resulted in pretty substantial numbers of Eastern Kingsnakes and Copperheads. My first Kingsnake this year I caught at Little Ocmulgee State Park where I was in the field with students from The Children School, a private school in Atlanta. In regards to copperheads, in just in the past few days I have rescued two of them in the Cobb County area. One in Atlanta Country Club (a yearling from last year) and just today a good size female at my son-in-laws parents house. (Tim & Diane Benich) Todays copperhead is a very healthy snake and she is just going into a shed cycle as her eyes are either just clouding up or possibly just clearing from being in blue. Either way she will be shedding her skin within the next week or 10 days and most likely within a week or so of that, she will drop her young. They are live bearers and she most likely will have anywhere from 5 to 10 babies. I have a venomous snake program tomorrow morning, so she will be an added attraction for the program. A photo of her is attached.....where she was found. I have also attached a copperhead cake that was the cake at a recent birthday party......the only copperhead at the party as I do not use venomous snakes at birthday parties. I always tell the birthday celebrity that I do not use venomous snakes to insure that they make it to their next birthday. The third image is a baby kingsnake caught at Little Ocmulgee State Park.
