Another year, another Shark Week. Im not one for ranting through - TopicsExpress

Another year, another Shark Week. Im not one for ranting through social media, so please bear with me on this one. Ive always struggled to get into Shark Week in years past, especially considering how much I love sharks and the ocean in general. The Discovery Channel better step it up this year! No more sensationalizing sharks for cheap thrills, focusing on bites, attacks, creating false perceptions of their danger, or even making mockumentaries that cause 90% of the passengers I encounter in my line of work to believe in falsities. Jaws did enough damage for the social perception of sharks, no need to continue this trend anymore. Discovery Channel has always been known for delivering high quality and educational programing, I dont understand why year after year they continue to fail in this regard when it comes to Shark Week. They have a huge global audience and an amazing opportunity to educate the masses with what matters about sharks, so I hope this year they take full-use of this privilege. This year, I hope they talk about what matters: ocean conservation and how sharks play a pivotal role in this, the decline of shark numbers in recent decades due to unsustainable fishing practices and shark finning, current research findings, etc. If you want to watch something shark-related that has actual value, please watch Sharkwater. Its a great documentary highlighting the real-world situation of shark finning. Despite having already been out for years now, its still one of the best shark-related shows/movies that Ive seen to date. Trailer for Sharkwater: https://youtube/watch?v=te5MeQUX4kk You can watch the entire documentary through various sources for what looks to be about $3 (iTunes, googleplay, youtube, etc)
