Answer to todays grammar challenge on the sentence, Uncle Gus likes pepperoni pizza more than me. ***** Many of you got this one right and many were close enough. Particularly good explanations by Mandy Richmond, Linda M. Au, Heidi Dunbar Scovel, Martha Virginia Spivey, Rachel Clark, Jim MacKaye, and Lorraine Mason. To keep it brief, there isnt necessarily an error here. The case of the pronoun in the comparison indicates what the sentence means. The use of the objective case pronoun me causes the sentence to say that Uncle Gus prefers pizza to his nephew. In other words, the sentence says, Uncle Gus likes pepperoni pizza more than he likes me. This is a reasonable possibility. However, it is more likely that the writer of the sentence intended to say that Guss penchant for pizza exceeds his own. In that case, he should have used the nominative case pronoun I. This would indicate the following meaning: Uncle Gus likes pepperoni pizza more than I like pepperoni pizza. or ...more than I do. So, the sentence as it stands is not incorrect, but it most likely says something other than what we assumed it was intended to say.
