Anti-Amnesty Bill Dead On Arrival In other words: Once again, Obama wins, and you lose. The sweeping Republican majorities elected in November 2014 were supposed to trigger change. Now, we’re quickly discovering that’s not the case. In fact, Republicans are preparing to embrace the Obama immigration policy. Although the House of Representatives has passed a bill to overturn Obama’s declarations granting amnesty via executive action, it’s dead on arrival in the U.S. Senate. Republican activists are astounded at the quick retreat. But they shouldn’t be. After all, the Republicans have been helping Obama all along… You see, the crony-capitalist elite running Washington desperately want changes to Obama’s immigration policy. But lobbyists from the healthcare, nursing home, restaurant, and hotel industries have convinced the lawmakers that without these workers, they won’t be able to operate. And in the final analysis, lawmakers always side with the lobbyists who send them money. Plain and simple: The voters and Tea Party activists who stuff envelopes, walk precincts, and work in campaign offices just aren’t as important as the dollars received for campaign ads. No Repeal Is a Match for Obama Here’s how the conflict is likely to unfold… The House of Representatives has allowed hard liners against immigration to pass a bill. The bill will get lots of coverage, similar to all the bills that passed in the last Congress to repeal Obamacare. But as we saw with Obamacare, without action in the U.S. Senate, these repeal bills die a slow, unseen death. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will mumble something about not having 60 votes every time someone asks a question about the death of the bill. Needless to say, conservative activists are upset. The Senate Conservatives Fund sent out a fundraising email saying McConnell may hold a quick vote “so he can throw up his hands, concede defeat, and move on to something else.” In the meantime, I predict the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will get its funding. Remember, the GOP strategy was originally to hold up DHS funding until Obama gave ground on immigration. But this strategy flew out the window after the terrorist attacks in Paris. Meanwhile, Obama is running a counter strategy, calling the Republicans weak on terrorism for not passing the DHS funding bill. And Boehner and McConnell are preparing to fold the tent and give in to Obama’s demands. What will likely happen is that we’ll see a “clean” funding bill for DHS appear and then be passed. (The word “clean” is Washington speak for a bill with Obama’s priorities intact so he will sign it.) The leadership of the GOP seems united in adopting the Obama plan for DHS. Speaking with National Review, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said, “That’s why you’re hearing an unequivocal commitment to funding the Department of Homeland Security; we’re not going to put that at risk under any circumstances.” These comments were echoed by the House Republican Conference Chairwoman, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, as she declared that keeping DHS open is a top goal. She concluded: “We will be working very closely with the president.” In other words: Once again, Obama wins, and you lose. westernjournalism/anti-amnesty-bill-dead-arrival/#2kBI0ijKy1Ft4OUM.97
