Anti-Israel protests continue in Kashmir; ‘Students torch Israeli flags’ Srinagar: Hundreds of people, mostly students from different parts of Kashmir Valley Monday took to the streets to oppose Israels carnage in Palestine and in solidarity with the people of Gaza. Reports said that hundreds of students from different institutions crowded the streets in Srinagar and amid anti-America and anti-Israel slogans torched the national flags of Israel and America at a number of places. Praying for the destruction of the Jewish state, the students marched through Regal Chowk, Clock Tower, Amira Kadal, Hari Singh High Street, Budshah Chowk and Exchange Road. The young demonstrators chanted Israel is approaching its death, “Death to Israel”, while some of them had covered their faces to keep their identity hidden. Some of the students were leading the protest rally on bikes who set the flags and effigies of Isreal and its leaders on fire. The Western countries have remained silent on the increasing inhuman activities of Israel. It is acting as absolute ruler and does whatever it likes. This shameless country is targeting little innocent children,” an agitated protestor said. These angry protestors after rallying in the lanes and bye-lanes of Srinagar city marched towards UN office at Sonawar. Police stopped most of the protestors near Golf Course, however some of the them managed to reach the UN office. Reports said that due to crowded streets, Srinagar city witnessed heavy traffic jam, however, the protestors did not resort to violence and marched peacefully. Police according to reports did not interfere and allowed the students to march peacefully. During afternoon hours, hundreds of female students from Women’s College Srinagar also marched through Srinagar roads and expressed resentment over the innocent killings in Palestine. The protestors while terming the Israel as the number one terrorist country in the world said that it is the need of the hour that Muslim countries in Middle East to get united. Israeli flags were torched by students in North Kashmir’s Sopore town as well where large number of students from Degree College Sopore staged a protest and took out a process against the massacre of Palestinian Muslims in Gaza by Jewish forces. Large number of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in the town to thwart possible clashes. However, protesting students marched peacefully and no untoward incident was reported during the anti-Israel protest march. Scores of students who were part of the march carried placards with messages of solidarity with Palestinians written on them urged upon International Community to stop Israel for violating International Laws. In another demo, hundreds of students from various educational institutions gathered in main chowk Pulwama and shouted anti-Israel slogans and demanded an end to ‘innocent killings’. The students of Degree College Pulwama boycotted their classes and took part in a march in solidarity with Palestinians. Students from Degree College Tral also protested against Israeli aggression. A group of scribes in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district also held anti-Israel protest in the town. Meanwhile, scores of government employees assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar and torched the national flag of Israel. The employees who were led by EJAC president Abdul Qayoom Wani tried to take out a march towards city-centre Lal Chowk, however, police swung into action and arrested number of them Qayoom Wani and Farooq Trali. During his address to employees, Wani said that Isreal is a war criminal and the international community should not act as mute spectator to shield its crimes. Kashmir Bar Association also held a protest rally. The rally was attended by lawyers community who condemned the Israeli carnage in Palestine. Anti-Israel protest was also staged by Awami Muthida Mahaz in Srinagar that was led by Abdul Rehman Takroo. Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Abdul Gani Mir was reportedly himself monitoring the situation. Reports said that he along with other police officers was present at the city centre as the protestors were marching on the roads. (CNS)
