Anti Privatisation crusader Sean Choat MP, Member for Ipswich West seems to have changed his tune? From: IpswichWest Electorate Office [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, 10 October 2012 9:47 PM To: Peter Simpson (ETU) Subject: RE: Electricity Privatisation Polling Hi Peter, I do appreciate your email. Prior to entering Parliament I worked (for about five years) in QR. I would like to reassure you that I would not support the privatisation of the Government assets to which you refer. I was extremely vocal in my condemnation of the Beattie-Bligh Government for their decisions on privatisations – particularly QR. The Premier has promised that IF any were to be considered, it would have to pass with the blessing of the people. My interpretation of that is a referendum on the matter. My sources told me 84% of Queenslanders were against Bligh’s sell-offs and I can tell you I haven’t met a soul (other than he who I replaced) in my electorate who supported the idea. None of the proceeds went to build a single school or a hospital – they lied! Worse still is they mortgaged off the stake they kept in QR National. I would argue strongly against a sell-off of assets associated with our electricity generation – the Beattie sale of the retail side hardly saw us realise the 15% charge reduction he and Bligh promised. I am confident there will be no such sell-off under this Government. As I was a former member of the RTBU, I would encourage you to contact Mr Bruce Mackie who will verify my attitude and I am sure will he be able to reassure you that I am genuine in my sentiment. I must say that I admire you for your stance against the Bligh Government – I know there would have been a personal cost. It’s a shame other Union Bosses did not and do not follow your example. Regards Sean
