Antony Cummins I finally tracked down where that specific Marishiten ongyojutsu spell in the Bansenshukai comes from. I saw some other versions, but this is a perfect match. It comes from Hattoris Shugendō yōten text. (from David Halls The Buddhist Goddess Marishiten) Single-Seal Ritual of Marishi ( Jp. Marishi ichi-inpō ) This text is the shortest of these four rituals and appears to be a simple, abbreviated version of the eighth century Chinese text, the Mārīcī Single- Seal Ritual. In summary its contents are: 1) Body Seal (Shin’in) and Mantra (Shingon). Make the seal and, holding it at your heart, chant the mantra (x 7). on marishi(yei) sowaka (Skt. oṁ mārīcyai svāhā) 2) Empowering the Five Points of the Body. Touch and empower the five points of the body: forehead, right shoulder, left shoulder, heart, and above the throat. At each point chant the mantra. Comment: As seen in Bukong’s eighth century Discourse on the Goddess Mārīcī, the five points are: forehead, right shoulder, left shoulder, heart, and throat. 3) Invisibility Seal (Ongyōin); Make the Invisibility Seal at your heart. Chant the spell (x 108): on ajitiyā marishi(yei) sowaka (Skt. oṁ adityāmārīcyai svāhā) You should use this for empowerment at the seven times: 1) during drows- iness or torpor; 2) at the time of spiritual awakening; 3) during ablutions; 4) during a long journey; 5) when meeting guests; 6) while dining; and 7) while in the toilet. Comment: The list of the seven times is the same one as is found in Mārīcī Single-Seal Ritual. This ends the Single-Seal Ritual of Marishi.
