Anudwegakaram vaakyam satyam priyahitam cha yat; Swaadhyaayaabhyasanam chaiva vaangmayam tapa uchyate. Speech which causes no excitements and is truthful, pleasant and beneficial, the Practice of the study of the Vedas, are called austerity of speech. 17th Discourse 15th Verse. Bhagavad Gita. The words of a man, who practices austerity of speech, cannot cause pain to others. His words bring cheer and others. They prove beneficial to all. The organ of speech Great distraction of mind. The control of speech is a difficult discipline, but you will have to practice it if you desire to attain supreme peace. Nothing is impossible for A person who has a firm determination, sincerity of purpose, iron will, perseverance and Patience. It is said Manu Smriti: “one should speak what is true; one should speak what is pleasant; One should not speak what is true if it is not pleasant, nor what is pleasant if it is false. This is the ancient Dharma”. Excitement: Pain to living beings. To be austerity, speech must combine all the four attributes mentioned in the above verse- Non-exciting and non-painful, truthful, pleasant and beneficial. If it is wanting in any of these, It will not constitute austerity of speech. For example one’s words is pleasant, but if they are lacking in the three attributes, they will no longer of be austerity of speech.
