Anxiety can take over our lives. And why not? Theres so much to worry about. So many things that cause a sense of dread and fear. Is it possible to control our anxiety? I believe we can... Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV) The command here is to be anxious for nothing- as if we have a choice about it. The fact is, we cant control circumstances that may trigger worrisome thoughts. But we can control the way we respond. Worry is a inward act. In worrying, we look deep within ourselves to manage an impending event or a past event. Sadly, it just doesnt work. The Apostle here is challenging us to go directly to the Source of our provision when we are in need. That need could be for physical, such as a car, a home, finances, or a job - relational, such as a broken friendship in need of redemption, or intervention from God for a marriage partner. So thoughts like, What am I going to do? How can I fix this? drive us deeper into anxiety and ourselves. Taking these concerns to God in prayer and faith places them in His hands where they belong. Thank Him ahead of time for his abundant provision. Thank Him for the wisdom that only comes from Him. Intentionally handing over to God our daily concerns and desires will activate Gods peace in every storm and trial. God is capable of seeing every need and responding to your faith. He will give us grace and peace in exchange for worry and anxiety.
