Any Astronomers out there? Ive got a problem Im trying to solve and would like to enlist everyones intellect. As you know, Ive been working with the artists at WETA Workshop in New Zealand on our final Fantasy of Flight Icon Sculpture, which was based on the previous one we displayed in our lobby. Both are shown here. There is a LOT of meaning in the Icon Sculpture as it relates to the Fantasy of Flight concept and feel the angle ha potential as well. The Icon Sculpture is intended to face DUE SOUTH . . . as the Sun can be symbolic of the Star in the Fantasy of Flight Logo (representing our future). The figure in the sculpture is representative of the Icarus/Daedalus story and embodies the duality of success and failure . . . both profound aspects of the human experience. The figure is not supposed to be one or the other . . . but BOTH! For our location in the Northern Hemisphere . . . the Sun is at its lowest point at the Winter Solstice . . . and it at its highest point at the Summer Solstice. I feel we need to aim the sculpture . . . which represents Humanity reaching beyond itself with the metaphor of Flight . . . to point towards the HIGHEST POINT OF THE ARC, or the BALANCE of the Suns journey of duality between the summer and winter solstices. So, this is what I want you to do. Imagine facing due south at the Fantasy of Flight latitude (28.12 degrees North Latitude) . . . put yourself at the time of the Equinoxs . . . and at HIGH NOON . . . and tell me what the angle of the Sun is above the souther horizon! Ive got an angle that Ive come up with that I believe is correct but dont want to influence you if Im right or wrong. Give it your best shot but please explain how you came up with the angle so we can all understand the thought process!
